back to school, etc.

Ah, first week of a brand new semester out of the way! The first week of January was wonderful (my boyfriend stayed with me for a few days), and my first week of classes went well. I'm taking Anthropology, US History, Psychology, and World Literature. (I'm trying to take a break from art classes this semester, and I'll hopefully resume them next fall.) Normally I'm terrified of going back to school, but I was actually looking forward to it this semester, probably because it means seeing my boyfriend on a regular basis.

Aside from school, my week hasn't been too eventful. I took off from work today due to illness. I was originally planning on going to thrift stores before work to find some hidden treasures to recycle into new creations, but because of my current condition, I've been using that time to draw and generally waste time on the internet. I found a website last week called svpply. It's one of those wishlist generating type of sites, and since I generally order all my clothing online, I figured it would be nice to make my own account to keep up with purchases. I don't know why, but looking at things I want brings me a certain comfort- and frustration, at times, since I normally can't afford it/ don't have the resources to order it. My account there is deerspots, naturally.

I've been feeling very artsy lately, I have so many ideas for artwork/clothing/jewelry. I'm very anxious to open my etsy shop. I've been trying to locate a printing company nearby, with no luck, so that I can start printing designs on shirts. I'm clueless about doing it myself? I haven't found any promising tutorials on the subject, either. My sister has offered to model them for me as advertisement at her school, so hopefully that will gain me some followers. It's a bit of a goal of mine to get my art noticed this year, so far that doesn't seem like it's going to happen. It's a bit discouraging, but I'm trying my best to stay positive.

My first design is called "Nocturnal Slumber". It features a lunar moth perched on a tiger cub's nose. It was done using colored pencils on a piece of old matte board. It was not originally intend to be a t-shirt design, but some friends ad family have suggested I do so- and I sorta think it would look nice on a shirt. Hopefully I can get all the details of that sorted out soon!

Yesterday (or rather, very early this morning) I completed another, somewhat similar piece. I call this one "Sanctification". It was completed using watercolor, colored pencil, pastel, and marker on some cheap paper I had lying around.

It's a very personal piece, and I'm not sure what I'd like to do with it. I might make prints of it in the future if any interest is shown.

If anyone is interested, both of these pieces are up on my deviantART account (if you'd like to see larger images, etc.).

I realize this has been a long entry, haha. I think I'll spend the rest of my day working on designs for a journal cover whilst listening to Fleet Foxes and eating white fudge pretzels. Mmm yes.

Thank you for reading!

new year

First post on the first day of a brand new year! I basically did nothing but eat, sleep, draw, and use the internet all day- but it was a very relaxing. My boyfriend is (hopefully) coming to stay with me for the next few days. I haven't seen him since Christmas break (and so we have yet to exchange gifts). I'm rather excited to see his reaction to his presents! I've built him a terrarium, as well as purchased him a sketchbook (which I've filled with sentimental, silly drawing for his amusement).

The two caterpillars (gosh, I hope you can tell that's what they are supposed to be!) were made using air dry clay. The little green one was painted, and the other I wrapped in pipe cleaners to make it look fuzzy. I really hope he likes them. I'm thinking of making more soon (maybe beach themed ones?) They are a lot of fun to make! My friends/family have been joking with me about how I am giving him "a jar of dirt" for Christmas, haha. I would share pictures of the sketchbook I made him, but I think maybe it's a bit too personal/sentimental to share.

Well, I hope everyone has had a nice day. Here's to a new year! I'm going to be using this blog as a log for my adventures and as a place to showcase my artwork, mainly, along with some daily ramblings, etc.
Thanks for reading.
