happy easter!

Happy Easter! I love Easter because BUNNIES (: Bunnies and candy! I haven't updated in a few weeks, it seems. During my spring break I went on a day trip with my dad! It was fun. We ended up going to DC, to the National Gallery of Art. I would have loved to visit other museums, but we only had time for one, sadly.

I didn't take too many pictures. (My camera battery was low and I forgot to charge it, haha.)  This painting on the right is by Luca Giordano, entitled Diana and Endymion. It gave me some serious Sailor Moon vibes, obviously, haha. I had a wonderful time. (I think my dad was fairly bored though. He's more of a landscape paintings in the living room only kind of guy.) They had a special Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood gallery, which was lovely. I would have loved to have taken some picture in there, but photography was banned in that section of the museum, unfortunately.

The rest of my spring break was (for the most part) spent at work, but I did manage to use some of my free time to draw! The drawing on the right is called Meow. I have always thought hairless cats to be so cute and wrinkly. They need more appreciation! The colors in the background are kind of unappealing, but this was mostly done just for practice/fun. I used colored pencils, markers, watercolors, and a white paint marker. I also made my boyfriend a very *manly* lighter as a gift, haha. I love little DIY projects like this. I also made some of my co-workers some "break time" lighters using stickers from the place we work, haha.

This week, I've been doing almost nothing but go to school/work. I did spend the night with my boyfriend the other night though. We ended up watching a lot of things on Netflix/eating candy. (In which I made him watch Thumbelina with me, haha.) Art-wise, I managed to crank out this sticker/magnet design.

Originally, the rose was to be pink, but I used the wrong shades, so I had to make it red, but I don't think it turned out bad.
I've been printing lots of stickers, haha.
The paper I've been printing them on makes them transparent though, which means I have to place them on a white surface for them to show up correctly. I went to Staples the other day though and bought some regular sticker paper, so we'll see which works better.

So far I've been keeping a log of where I put the stickers to keep up with them. I've only placed three of them on campus, and one of them has already been removed. Bummer.

Lastly, just going to show off this lovely dress I bought! The green/purple colors are perfect! I've never been a fan of this high-low thing? But I actually really like it in this case. The dress is a little big on me, but I think it will shrink in the wash anyways.

I am really in the mood for spring, I have so many things I want to do. I am so ready for school to be over with! (Plus I want to wear cute dresses without having to wear tights/sweaters with them.)

spring break is finally here!

I'm so glad spring break is finally here. I've had a hectic last couple of weeks because of midterms. Now I can finally do a little bit of relaxing (even though I'm working this weekend and next week). I hope to do some art projects and some shopping this week too!

I managed to finish my "woodland creatures" magnet set this week. The designs feature a raccoon, deer, fox, opossum (and hummingbird)! They were made using watercolors, colored pencils, and marker on watercolor paper, and then printed onto magnet paper.

The first batch I made came out super pixelated, but I manage to  iron out the printing error, and the next batch came out just fine.

I hope to sell these soon. A friend of mine has mentioned a boutique that might sell them for me (which I am far to excited about and am probably just getting my hopes up over). I hope to eventually put them up on etsy too..whenever I get around to listing things and such on there. I'm thinking of making some more designs. Maybe an "undersea creatures" theme?

My next projects include a commissioned toms design and a collaborative drawing with my boyfriend which I am super stoked for! I'll be doing the basic sketch for it, and he will be doing the lines. I will be doing the colors, and then he will be doing some extra linework over the colors. I'll definitely be taking some process pictures to upload. I love drawing with him (:

That's all I have for now. Thanks for reading!

weekend adventures + midterms

I had a very nice weekend. Spent some time with my friend, who stayed with me over the weekend. We did quite a bit of shopping together. On Sunday we went out for lunch with another mutual friend of ours, and it was lots of fun! I made quite a few purchases, and I feel as though I spent a lot of money! (Though most of the things I purchased were paid for using old gift cards.)

I had a $20 gift card for Forever 21 that I spent on a few necklaces, as well this ICEE tank top. The necklaces were super cheap (like $2-$3), and I love the colors! I especially like the rose pendant, as I can easily take it off and put it on my plain black velvet choker and wear it that way as well. I don't really like to buy things from Forever 21 because everything is cheaply made and Forever 21 has a bad business history, but I had a gift card so I figured why the hell not.

I also had a gift card for Ross, which I spent most of buying some shoes as a gift for my friend. However, I spent $5 of that card on some nifty sunglasses! I love the colors/pattern on them.

I've been wanting a 'wreck this' journal for a while, and the other night after my friend and I had dinner with my boyfriend, we stopped at Target, and I finally managed to come across one! I can't wait to get started on it. I've skimmed through the pages and it seems very interesting.

My friend and I also hit up a few thrift stores, in which I came across an awesome dress that I managed to snag for only $16. It fits a little bit tighter than I would prefer, but it is an XS, and I just prefer things to be a little bit bigger on me anyways. Regardless, I am very happy with it. For now, since it is still winter weather, I can wear sweaters over it, but I can't wait to wear it out during the spring. The color of it is perfect. (I'm very much into the aqua shades, if you couldn't tell. It's almost obnoxious.)

Also, the week before, I did a little thrift shopping of my own, in which I purchased this nice velvet shirt for only $1.50!!

In other news, my art productivity has been put on hold for now. I have midterms this week and the week after, so most of my free time this week is going to have to be devoted to studying. Sighhhhh. It's a shame because I have so many ideas right now but no time! School, school, studying, school, studying, school, work, studying, work, work, repeat. It's a never ending cycle. I hope I can manage my time well and maybe squeeze in a few art projects. I guess we'll just have to see!

productivity, etc.

I've been feeling very productive art-wise lately! I've managed to finish up a few projects, and begin on a few others. I'm very motivated, and I feel like my art is definitely headed in a direction that I am liking.

On the right is a drawing I did on a scrap piece of cardboard. It's a drawing of my rabbit, Rubee. There are always ladybugs around her hutch, so I got the idea of a drawing like this with one hanging out on her little nose (: I used pastels, colored pencils, and acrylics on the mushroom/some details. The colors are a bit off in this photograph (and photoshop did little to help correct them). I am beginning to like the feel of colored pencils. I hated them in high school, but I think I am slowly getting comfortable using them.

I've also gotten around to finishing the dream journal I've been working on since the beginning of the year! (I showed a preview in a previous post). It's a 4x6 cardboard journal I picked up at Hobby Lobby. I've been keeping a log of my dreams in it consistently so far since January. It was one of my 'new year goals' to keep up with my dreams. I struggled for a while with what I wanted to do for the cover/inside flap designs, but after having a dream about a fennec fox, I decided to go with a 'desert' kind of theme. The journal features drawings of not only a fennec fox, but other creatures as well, including a scorpion, gila monster, and a lunar moth! All of it was done using colored pencils.

Both of these pieces are currently featured in both my deviantART and nabyn galleries.

In addition to my completed projects, I recently purchased some magnet paper, on which I am going to print some "woodland creatures" designs that I have been working on, as seen on the left.

My boyfriend spent the weekend with me, and we spent some time drawing together. I managed to sketch out my designs, while he cranked out an awesome drawing. (on the right) He's more of a musician, but good grief his drawings are so chilling! I love them. I wish he drew full pages of things like this for me to marvel at! I'd love to have some to hang in my room.

Anyways, this is just a rough sketch of my ideas. I am fervently working on adding the color to them soon! The designs feature a raccoon, possum, deer, and fox (and a tiny hummingbird!) I hope to have these finished by the end of the week!

In other news, I have a very exciting weekend ahead of me. My friend is coming to stay with me for a few days! We plan on going shopping! Later tonight I'm going to play some video games with my work buddies since we all have the day off. Should be fun!

late valentine's day ( + other adventures)

I'd like to wish everyone a (belated) happy valentine's day! I hope everyone had a nice day, I know I did. I have been very busy lately with exams, work, and general laziness, hence the lack of updates. I think I'm going to start making it a goal to do at least one post a week from now on.

The 11th was my boyfriend's birthday, and I spent Friday-Sunday with him. On Friday I went with him to go get his new tattoo, which was an exciting experience for me. As much as I love tattoos, I don't have any of my own (yet) and I had ever actually seen the process. He got a tattoo of Mucalinda (The Naga King), on his right thigh. So far he only has the outline, but I can't wait for him to go back and get the color done. It looks fantastic! We spent the rest of the weekend with his family. We did some drawing together one night (both he and his mother are wonderful artists, they totally show me up.) I did a drawing of a spanish moon moth. I did it from memory, so the wing shape and colors are very inaccurate, but I kinda of like the result. I used colored pencils and a brown fine tip sharpie. I might sell prints later?

The piece is up on my deviantART if anyone is interested.

I recently bought some large envelope labels to make stickers with! So far I've managed to make one for a sketchbook cover. It's a drawing of my bunny, Rubee. She's my precious little angel! I'll be making more soon, maybe ones for sale?

I recently received an invitation from an awesome friend to nabyn, and I'm slowly navigating my way around the site. It's a lot different from deviantART. If you have an account there, mine is deerbunny.

I have also bee wanting to do some street art? It seems everywhere I go I have a urge to draw on something.   I purchased a paint marker that I've been keeping handy, and I've been doodling on class desks, but I aspire to do something on a much larger scale. I'm honestly very nervous about buying any spray paint or to actually draw on let's say, a dumpster or a wall or anything. Maybe I'll get there. I've been trying to come up with a 'tag' name for fun. My school notebooks are filled with me trying to perfect a graffiti-style signature. I'm being silly, I know, but it's a feeling I can't shake.

Today I was off from both work and school, so I got to spend some time relaxing, then went shopping with my sister after she got off of school. I made some frivolous purchases, but the items were on sale so I couldn't resist! I snagged an awesome picture frame with beetles on it, and a beautiful incense stand that looks like a piece of wood with a silver snail atop it (as a gift for me and my boyfriend to share). Needless to say I am happy with both purchases.

I kind of want to redecorate my room a bit. Nothing drastic or anything. I'd just like to get some new curtains, a new blanket, add/remove things from the walls, and buy some christmas lights or lanterns or garland to hang from the ceiling. I'd also like to buy some plants for my room as well.

Right now I'm downloading some movies to watch with my boyfriend this week. Is it weird that I don't own my favorite movie on DVD? I feel like that is something most people own. Well I think that concludes this entry. Have a nice weekend, everyone!

first week of february

Hope everyone had a nice January, as well as a nice February so far! My boyfriend and my best friend are having their birthdays this month, (I seem to attract Aquarians) which means I need to do some shopping soon!

I've been busy lately with school and work, but have managed to find some time to do some artwork this weekend.
At the beginning of the new year, I told myself I would start keeping a dream journal. So far, I've been able to keep up with documenting my dreams. The cover of the journal has a fennec fox on it. (Because I had a dream I had one as a pet!) I haven't had enough time to get around to finishing the back of the cover, as well as the inside flaps, so this is just a preview of the front cover. The journal is a nice, cardboard-like material, which (in my opinion) complements the texture of colored pencils and makes the colors stand out more. I'm trying to get more comfortable with colored pencils. I'm too used to using markers.

Lately I've been going to thrift stores in search of clothes to modify/paint. This is the first product of my thrift store adventures. This shirt originally had long sleeves. I cut those off, then painted on the back of the shirt using acrylics and some fabric markers. I really struggled with the design at first. My original idea was to paint bunnies on the pocket/back panel, but I could not get the image of a lunar moth/roses out of my head, so I settled for this instead. I'm a little unhappy about the colors, in my mind they were much softer, but I'm glad with the results. I was going to take some process pictures of this project, but it was late at night when I was working on this, so I decided against that. I hope to do similar projects in the future, and I might end up selling some things on my etsy at some point?

Well that's all I have for now. Thanks for reading (:
